Tornadoes are hitting counties all over Georgia.

With rough winds whipping through Texas and a new wave of politics sweeping across the nations, there has not been very much focus on the tornadoes decimating part of the country. Regions of the southeast are in shambles as storms hit cities and communities, destroying livelihoods and even lives in their path. As of today, the Georgia death toll is up to 20 due to dangerous and leveling tornadoes.

According to Fox news, “39 possible tornadoes were reported across the Southeast from early Saturday into Sunday evening — none immediately confirmed. Of that, 30 were reported in Georgia, four in Mississippi, and one each in Louisiana and South Carolina.”. The governor, Nathan Deal, declared a state of emergency across many counties in Georgia, as dozens of regions are left devastated.

Mobile homes, houses, buildings and trees are left demolished by these incredible storms, leaving families and friends with nothing. Many have no homes, no food, no warmth, no hope, County Commission Chairman Chris Cohilas said at a news conference on Monday, “We’ve exhausted everything we have.” The state is doing all that it can to try to support its citizens, but they took a hard hit and it will take time to rebuild.

Unfortunately, the reality is that tornadoes can hit at almost any time of the year with little to no warning, meaning people were unable to prepare for the devastating onslaught of storms. While spring is considered tornado season, in the south especially, the risk is never really zero.

Currently, communities of southern Georgia are trying to repair from the aftermath of these deadly storms, identifying dead bodies, and searching for those who are missing. Per News for Jax “’It is total devastation and destruction,” Dougherty County Emergency Management Director Ron Rowe said Monday, “We have multiple neighborhoods that have totally been removed.” There are many now simply giving thanks to be alive and to have their families standing beside them.

The Red Cross is moving in full force to try to bring relief to the victims of the tornadoes, and if you would like you can click the following link to donate to the Red Cross: https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation. The families in the southeast need help and supplies after this horrible tragedy, and their needs must be heard.
