Teachers NEED to get off their phones if they are going to enforce the phone ban. Phones can be just as distracting for adults during instructional time as students, but the rule somehow does not apply to administrators. Many of my teachers abuse the phone rule not applying to them and spend more time on their phones than actually teaching. Teachers called for the phone ban so students could have proper instructional time without distractions, yet as soon as they are done with a lesson, that mindset goes out the window. Even in the past when phones were allowed, I still saw teachers on their phones far more than students. They would sit at their desk all high and mighty after assigning a one billion page essay and stare at their phones until the bell rang. Instead of doing their job and catching up on the 300 Schoology assignments they need to put in the gradebook, they choose to scroll through Facebook reels. Now with the phone ban in effect, teachers enforce this as such a double standard. They will take up half a dozen phones in a day while checking their phone every time they finish a sentence. Grading students papers and planning lessons is out, enforcing double standards is in!
