The arena was loud and overwhelming, but all he saw was his goal in front of him. He remembered all of the practice that had led him here, even his previous sport. This was the milestone, the goal and the career. No longer was he wrestling just another high schooler in his weight class, junior Collin Tingley was wrestling against his own athletic journey, his 100th win.
In the beginning, Tingley was not a wrestler, but an athlete in a different sport.
“I did Jiu-Jitsu and then switched over to wrestling in high school,” Tingley said.
Jiu-Jitsu is different to wrestling, focusing more on ground fighting, leverage and submissions. Wrestling focuses on takedowns, control and pinning. Once he started wrestling freshman year, he never expected to hit 100 wins. Little did he know that all that practice would make it happen.
“People don’t understand the two practices plus workouts a day, the dieting, staying up late, waking up early and the mental strength it takes to be successful,” Tingley said.
This isn’t just a hobby, it’s his life. As of his 100th win in January 2026, Tingley ranks second in the Boys District 10-6A tournament according to Texas Wrestling. Tingley says that this match felt different because it was a milestone completed.
“This milestone just shows me the work is paying off and to keep going,” Tingley said.
