Q: Who is your biggest inspiration in your sport?
A: I would say in my sport, my biggest inspiration is probably my old coach, Coach Sean. He brought me to the athlete I am today, and without him, I wouldn’t have been able to compete at the level I’m at. And I would also say through the sport, like someone, like a professional athlete I look up to is Michael Phelps, because he was always really dedicated and inspired me to push myself to my very best every day.
Q: If you could tell your younger, freshman self, anything as far as sports, what would you tell them?
A: I would tell my freshman self to not worry so much about what other competitors are doing and that you’re on your own journey; and that the more you focus on things that don’t matter, like what other people are doing, the less time you’ll have to focus on the things that do matter, which is the stuff you have to focus on for yourself.
Q: What’s your favorite quote?
A: Never settle for less than your best. Always try and reach for your very best.
Q: Where do you find motivation for your sport?
A: I find motivation by realizing that every single day, if I show up to the pool, no matter how I’m feeling, I know I’m going to get the best results possible compared to some people who lack any form of motivation. I know I’m going to get better results than them. And sometimes it’s not always about motivation, but it’s about how much discipline you have. Because some days you’re not going to have motivation, but if you’re willing to go regardless of how motivated you feel, that shows that you have discipline.
Q: What’s your favorite accolade that you’ve achieved so far?
A: I would say my favorite accolade that I’ve achieved was probably when I was District Swimmer of the Meet last year and I won the best event.
Q: What’s your best event?
A: For school, it’s the 500 Free. My favorite event is the 200 Fly.
