Reach For The Stars (or even for Mars)

Jordan Miller, Managing Editor

On Thursday, October 1st students were able to participate in a mass video chat in the teaching theater, featuring NASA members from the Kennedy Space Center and actors for the upcoming film The Martian. The video chat included many schools from around the United States, and most schools were able to ask questions to the speakers on the video chat and also on social media.

First, the video chat featured the trailer for the new movie The Martian, which premiered on October 2, 2015. Two stars of The Martian, Mackenzie Davis and Chiwetel Ejiofor, were guest speakers on the video chat and answered questions about what it was like to film a movie about Mars. Then, the scientists from NASA presented a synopsis of the new Mars discovery, evidence that liquid water flows on Mars, and explained what this discovery could mean for the future: a possible backup when the human race needs

another place to call home.
