Cy Woods, 1-2 (1-1 in district), struggled early in this one as they fell to the Cy Falls Eagles 57-20. In the first half alone, their defense surrendered 43 points only managing to slow them down in the second half when their backups saw the field.

“We’ll still continue to grind on them [in practice],” said Coach James Whitmore, “some guys are still young, still developing, we [have] to just stick together and stay the course.”

The offense had a rough outing as well, only able to put up six points in the entire first half. Quarterback Bryson Powers tossed two interceptions, but for all darkness, there is light, and he chunked a couple Hail Mary’s caught to receiver Tre’ Hart for a combined total of 122 yards in just two plays.

“Line blocked great and the receivers made some great catches. We got a few yards out of it, but we got to get a lot better,” Powers said.

A rough season may lie ahead for the Wild Cats but the most important thing for them to take away is that they cannot sit down and give up. They have to continue to fight and grow has a team, and as a family, and if they can do so, they will be able to play when playoffs roll around.

If the Wild Cats cannot pick up their play by the end of the season, look for more games like this one to come in such a difficult conference.

“Sometimes it’s hard to beat the bad teams, with good teams it can get out of control,” Coach Chris Turnbow said.

The Wild Cats look forward to their next meeting against a Cy Ranch team, 2-0 (1-0 in district), fresh off a bid at the State Title game last season.
