On Friday, August 28th, sheriff deputy Darren Goforth was gunned down at a Shell gas station here in Cypress, Texas. He was shot 15 times in the back and head causing him to die at the gas station. Atrocities like this happen all across the country and for them to happen this close to home is heart breaking. As a greater Cy-Woods community we feel that recognition of these horrible events is a necessity to show oppressors that we will not cower in the face of evil. We will rise up this Friday by having a Blue Day organized by student council where all Cy-Woods students wear blue in memory of our fallen officer. This day of remembrance will be to raise awareness, show support to families of the fallen officer and collect funds for the 100 club that supports all emergency servicemen. Also this past week multiple communities including Coles Crossing have given residents blue ribbons to put outside their homes in recognition of officer Goforth. Erin Herbert of student council organized this event and you can find her and the rest of student council collecting funds at all lunches. Student council has been at the fore-front of this mission to acknowledge the risk officers take to protect us. So please don’t forget to support our boys in blue by dressing in blue on friday.
