WARNING: THERE WILL BE SPOILERS (up to episode 7)

Calling all Rick and Morty fans: let’s talk season 3.

We’re 7 episodes into season 3, and it has been nothing less than a whirlwind of feelings. Not only do we kick off the season with the emotional conflict Morty and Summer have while dealing with their parent’s divorce, we also explore the ‘Citadel’ in the newest episode where there is a whole city full of Ricks and Mortys from other dimensions and worlds. The plot lines in each episode are a lot more intense, and I can’t seem to look away from the screen once the show starts playing. One of my favorite episodes was episode 3 “Pickle Rick”. Although it looks ridiculous on the outside, it actually delves into the family’s feelings and emotions regarding the divorce. Aside from the deeper inclinations with the family going to a therapist, it doesn’t miss out on the classic Rick and Morty humor we all know and love. From the slightly gory violence to Rick’s catchphrases, “Pickle Rick” is chock full of dumb jokes. Another one of my favorites is the latest episode, episode 7, “The Ricklantis Mixup/ Tales from the Citadel”. This episode really highlights the differences between Ricks and Mortys and how Mortys, and even some Ricks, are mistreated and oppressed. It includes a Morty that is elected president of the Citadel, which is revealed to be the infamous “Evil Morty” at the end of the episode.

Animation wise, creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon really stepped up their game. All of the characters are noticeably more expressive and, well, animated. The improvement in their artwork is visible and the emotions the characters feel really come through to the audience through the way they move and speak (thanks, Roiland).

Based on the episodes that have already aired, I can tell that this season, like all of them, is going to be very entertaining and thought-provoking, accompanied with beautiful artwork and impeccable voice acting.
