Netflix original, “The Kissing Booth.”

Netflix released a new Netflix original movie; The Kissing Booth on May 18, 2018. The Kissing Booth stars Joey King and her boyfriend, Jacob Elordi. King is most known from starring alongside Selena Gomez in Ramona and Beezus. The film also stars Molly Ringwald, most known for Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club.

The Kissing Booth is an extremely cheesy romcom, though not necessarily child friendly. The movie follows a young girl, Elle, on her journey through high school with her best friend, Lee, by her side. Lee and Elle have been friends since they were in diapers and have an established ground rule; Lee’s older brother, Noah, is completely, utterly, 100% off limits. Without exception.

Elle harbours a crush on Noah, though doesn’t act on her feelings due to her friendship with Lee. In a “surprising” turn of events Noah reciprocates Elle’s feelings and the two start a secret romance which is eventually found out by a furious Lee.

There are some flaws with this movie. It’s overly cheesy in some parts. It’s also mentioned in the beginning that Elle’s mom passed away, but they never really carried it out in the whole movie. For someone who’s mom just recently passed away, Elle is pretty much recovered by the start of the plot. Also the ending, while it was philosophically sound, was kind of disappointing to most of the viewers. We wanted more than we got.

This movie is cheesy. It’s also somewhat predictable. However the movie more than makes up for it with its awkward comedy. Also the relationship between Elle and Noah is genuinely adorable with Noah being more than a head taller than Elle.

The Kissing Booth is an adorably cheesy romcom that is worth the time to watch.
