Rant in 212: Texas Weather

February 10, 2021

Having lived in Houston for my entire life, I’m no stranger to the absolutely manic weather patterns we get down here. With that being said, I still get completely sideswiped by a sudden cold front or huge storm. Can’t I just enjoy myself and not have to worry about both boarding my windows up to keep the rain out, and opening others to beat the heat? Texas is also known for its insane amount of hurricanes, as it sits right next to the Gulf of Mexico. I would venture to guess that people who wish to live by the coast actually don’t live near the coast, because those who do live near the coast despise the ungodly amount of rain and wind. On the flip side, moving just a few miles away from the coast into central or east Texas may seem like a solution… but, when you forgo the rain and wind, you embrace the blistering heat and the tornados of the Texan plains and desert. Now that we’ve ruled out south and east Texas, you may think you’re safe in the panhandle. You’d be wrong, the panhandle is pretty much the only place in Texas that snow falls yearly, and it loses its novelty quickly. Make up your mind, Texas.
