My experience with Fire Emblem was swift and wonderful, a whirlwind of quality gameplay and fun experiences. Although it was only a few months earlier, I’ve blown my way through four of their most recent games. Since I have no consoles to play the older games, I was left aching for more. To my delight, I was given a pleasant distraction called Fire Emblem Heroes. There was no way I couldn’t buy it, a game featuring all the characters I had grown to love? All in one game with no timeline barriers nonetheless? There was no downside I could spot from the outside.

In the game, I discovered I was right, with only a few faults. The game starts off with a familiar face to many of the games-Anna, previously a guide or merchant depending on your game, is now commander of the Order of Heroes. At the beginning of the game, she reveals that she has summoned you using a legendary weapon which means you must be a hero to save the kingdom from an attacking neighbor.
The rest of the short journey is spent in classic strategy, battling characters from previous Fire Emblem games. The only flaw I could find with this nostalgia-inducing game was the short length and orb system.
Despite being a free game, I was hoping it would have been released with a longer and meatier storyline.

I continue to hope that it will be lengthened and updated eventually. With the orbs, I have always held a mighty grudge with paying to get ahead, which I felt that you could do in this game. With enough money, you could buy all the supplies you needed to get ahead without any of the skill that gave Fire Emblem its difficult charm, but it’s a laughably small and opinionated flaw.

All around, the game is fun and nostalgic, especially for those having experience with the Fire Emblem series. The special maps and different difficulties kept me entertained, and hopefully with some waiting, more stories will come this way. I give this app a 8.7/10.
