In a game that saw plenty of long runs and big touchdowns, the Cy Woods Wildcats, 2-4 (2-3 in district) defeated the Cy Lakes Spartans, 1-6 (0-6 in district), by a whopping score of 70-20. The Wildcats came just a mere one point shy of breaking the record of single game points by one team which was previously set at 71.

The whole first quarter was a blur of scoring by the Wildcats and they outscored the Spartans 42-6 in just a ridiculous array of cuts and moves across the field from what seemed like every skill position player on the field.

Quarterback Bryson Powers was responsible for roughly 32% of the offensive production in the first quarter and ended the game with 70 yards as opposed to the rest of the teams 144 yards. He also managed to show off some speed and blazed past defenders for a score on the ground but later  completed a pass to Jared Taylor which turned into a 21 yard strut down the side line.

Powers saw limited playing time in the second half and the coaching staff gave back up Jacob Kainer a chance at the helm. Kainer showed flashes of real potential as an eventual Quarterback for the Wildcats but was inconsistent up until his departure from the game with an injury.

Kainer threw three interceptions and went 5/9 on the night with a majority of his plays being hand offs to the dynamic backs in CJ Jones and RJ Harmon. However, Kainer did manage to throw two touchdowns while he was in in the second half.

Unfortunately the defense gave up a couple easy scores, but it’s to be expected when backups are in. The defensive side of the ball has been a struggle for the Wildcats all year but they are slowly showing improvement as the team continues to gain experience with every game.

The coaches need to continue to develop their younger talent like junior Neil Chambers and Collin Fewox who have already left an impact on the field if they want to try and salvage what’s left of this season.

Next week the Wild Cats face off against the Langham Creek Lobos and with a win there the Cats could potentially, put themselves in the playoff picture. Look for another display of finesse on offense next Friday at 7:00PM.
