A Big Win for the Cats

The Cy Woods Wild Cats defeated the Cy ridge Rams 59-34 in a huge display of offense for the Wildcats that saw a quite a few nice defensive outings including a fumble recovery in the end zone by linebacker Brandon Deprato.

“It’s all about mostly the defense, we did a lot better. We were able to stop the run and the pass, so that’s the biggest thing,” Deprato said.

A big night for Deprato with two swatted passes a touchdown and multiple tackles for loss. Look for Deprato to continue MVP like play for the rest of the season if he can stay healthy.

“Kids had a great night, two scores on defense, almost had a third,” coach Trent Faith said, “I was very proud of our team, played much better as a team, all phases of the game, and [we] played Wild Cat football.”

Not noting any major differences in practice other than hitting a little bit harder; the improvements seemed to be exponential. Most of the scores Cy Ridge was able to get came off deep thrown passes over the corners so you can expect coaches to work to improve their play throughout the course of the season.

After going down 21-7 early in the first quarter to the Rams, the team looked like it was in for a rough night but the offense seemed to have come alive in the second quarter, and the defense as well, only allowing only a field goal in the second quarter but scoring 22 of their own including a two point conversion off a keeper by Bryson Powers into the right side of the end zone.

“We started off pretty slow, offense put us in a tough spot but stuff like that happens. We [have] to be able to rise to the occasion, and we weren’t able to do it, we got down early, got settled in and played a hell of a game I thought.” Coach Bob Chaya said.

Expect major improvements throughout the whole team the coming weeks as they try to make a season good enough to make it to play offs, something coach Faith has been able to do three out of the four years he has been at the Woods.
